QUICK DECISION

Four answers before reading the technical detail

This section supports initial screening; final grade, addition and effects require operating conditions, formal documents and plant validation.

01

What it is

Used for technically reviewed deoxidation, calcium treatment and inclusion control in steelmaking and steel foundries; performance depends on grade, deoxidation state, sulfur, feed form and process stage.

02

What it does

  • Combined deoxidation
  • Calcium treatment and inclusion control
  • Silicon adjustment
03

Where it fits

  • After final deoxidation or during ladle refining
  • Post-melt deoxidation or tapping/ladle treatment
04

Boundary not to miss

  • Reactive calcium and variable recovery require control; unsuitable addition may cause splashing, CaS or adverse inclusions and nozzle problems
  • Transferring calcium treatment across grades without review may create inclusion, casting or performance risks

SELECTION BOUNDARY

Start with the selection boundary

Calcium silicon is not an unconditional substitute for calcium metal, ordinary ferrosilicon or every calcium-treatment cored wire. Confirm Ca/Si, Al, C, P, S, form, sizing/fill, steel grade, final oxygen/sulfur, equipment and the formal TDS.

PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

Product manufacturing process

Calcium-silicon raw materials and smelting routes vary by producer. Commercial material is generally made through controlled smelting or alloying, casting, cooling, crushing, screening and testing. Lump, powder and cored-wire feed must be managed separately.

  1. 01Confirm silicon/calcium feeds and process route
  2. 02Controlled smelting or alloying
  3. 03Cast, cool and control homogeneity
  4. 04Crush, screen and control fines
  5. 05Test Ca/Si, residuals, sizing and pack

SPECIFICATIONS & PACKAGING

Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging

Ca and Si are the principal indicators, with Al, C, P, S and other residuals controlled by grade. Product form, sizing, cored-wire fill condition and pack must be defined in the formal SKU and TDS.

  1. 01Confirm Ca/Si family and formal SKU
  2. 02Check main-element and residual guarantees
  3. 03Separate lump, powder or cored wire by equipment
  4. 04Confirm pack, moisture control, SDS and lot COA

GRADES & SPECIFICATIONS

Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

ORDER SPECIFICATION CONFIRMATION

What must be confirmed before this becomes an order specification

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

  1. 01Confirm the product, grade, application and supply scope
  2. 02Fix guaranteed chemistry, sizing, form and packing in the quotation and order
  3. 03Agree sampling, test methods, acceptance rules and lot COA fields
  4. 04Confirm the required TDS, SDS/PSI, labels and delivery documents

SELECTION AND COMPARISON

Compare specification directions by indicators and operating conditions

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

INDUSTRY APPLICATION

Industry, furnace, material and addition point

Confirm the process position before method and quantity calculations; an application relationship for one furnace or material must not be copied to another.

01

Steelmaking plants

After final deoxidation or during ladle refining

Furnace / equipment
BOF/EAF tapping, LF and ladle treatment
Material / output
Carbon, alloy and special steels with a reviewed calcium-treatment practice
02

Steel foundries

Post-melt deoxidation or tapping/ladle treatment

Furnace / equipment
EAF, induction furnace and ladle treatment
Material / output
Process-validated carbon and alloy cast steels

APPLICATION METHOD

Application method and effect validation

Calcium-silicon treatment must be designed around steel O/S/Al, temperature, slag, target inclusions, measured product Ca/Si and equipment, then closed by plant trials and resampling.

  1. 01Define deoxidation, calcium-treatment or inclusion objective
  2. 02Check steel O/S/Al, temperature and slag
  3. 03Select feed form, stage and stirring method
  4. 04Trial and verify chemistry, sulfur and inclusions

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

From operating objective to effect verification

Each application explains the role, method, quantity principle and risk boundary; the final proposal is confirmed against operating conditions and lot documents.

01

Steelmaking plants

After final deoxidation or during ladle refining

Furnace / equipment
BOF/EAF tapping, LF and ladle treatment
Material / output
Carbon, alloy and special steels with a reviewed calcium-treatment practice
Method
After oxygen, sulfur, aluminium, temperature and slag are controlled, select lump, powder or cored wire to suit the equipment; avoid wet feed and strongly oxidising stages.
Quantity determination
Balance the treatment objective, measured Ca/Si, expected recovery and steel conditions, then validate by plant trial; no fixed dose is published without grade and equipment context.
Expected effects
  • Can support deoxidation and designed inclusion-shape control
  • Introduces silicon in suitable steel grades
Limits and risks
  • Reactive calcium and variable recovery require control; unsuitable addition may cause splashing, CaS or adverse inclusions and nozzle problems
02

Steel foundries

Post-melt deoxidation or tapping/ladle treatment

Furnace / equipment
EAF, induction furnace and ladle treatment
Material / output
Process-validated carbon and alloy cast steels
Method
Confirm the melting route, final oxygen/sulfur, aluminium-deoxidation practice and casting requirement before selecting feed form, timing and stirring.
Quantity determination
Base the decision on melt analysis, measured product chemistry, treatment objective and furnace-specific trials, with technical confirmation.
Expected effects
  • Supports cast-steel deoxidation and validated inclusion control
Limits and risks
  • Transferring calcium treatment across grades without review may create inclusion, casting or performance risks

STORAGE & SAFETY

Storage, handling and risk

  • Keep strictly dry and never add wet feed to molten metal; control dust, reaction and splashing under the final SDS and calcium-treatment practice.

This section does not replace the company's final SDS/PSI or the plant safety procedure.

REFERENCE AND ORDER BOUNDARY

Use industry references to understand, then order documents to confirm

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

DOCUMENTS & MEDIA

Document availability depends on the product, lot, destination market and order agreement.

TDS

Confirms product identity, guaranteed indicators, sizing, form and packing.

SDS / PSI

Confirms storage, handling, protection and market-specific safety information.

COA
