QUICK DECISION

Four answers before reading the technical detail

This section supports initial screening; final grade, addition and effects require operating conditions, formal documents and plant validation.

01

What it is

The Mg, Si, Ca, rare-earth balance, particle size and exact inoculation duty must be confirmed to avoid confusion with nodularisers.

02

What it does

  • Candidate low-Mg specialty inoculation
  • Nodulariser/inoculant identity review
  • Treatment-element and addition-point matching
03

Where it fits

  • First determine nodularising, CGI treatment, preconditioning or post-nodularisation inoculation
04

Boundary not to miss

  • Treating an MgFeSi nodulariser as an inoculant, or the reverse, can create reaction, residual-Mg, microstructure and safety risks

SELECTION BOUNDARY

Start with the selection boundary

“Silicon-magnesium inoculant” is not a uniformly defined standard product name. Material containing roughly 5–10% Mg and designed for nodularising should normally be managed as MgFeSi or RE-Mg-FeSi nodulariser. Create a formal SKU under this page only when supplier TDS, lot COA and application practice establish a low-Mg specialty inoculant. Nodularising and post-treatment inoculation are separate steps.

PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

Confirm product identity before reviewing its production route

A low-Mg specialty FeSi inoculant is not the same product as an MgFeSi nodulariser. Both industry routes may include FeSi-base and alloying-feed batching, controlled melting/alloying, casting/cooling, crushing/sizing, fines control, lot testing and moisture-protected packing; Mg level, designed duty and addition stage determine the final identity.

  1. 01Confirm the target duty: inoculation, nodularising, CGI treatment or preconditioning
  2. 02Review the FeSi base plus Mg, Ca, RE and other active elements
  3. 03Melt/alloy under the supplier route and control Mg recovery
  4. 04Cast/cool, crush, screen and control fines
  5. 05Test chemistry, sizing and homogeneity by lot and pack against moisture

SPECIFICATIONS & PACKAGING

The specification must first state the product's actual function

An inquiry should at least confirm Mg, Si, Ca, RE/Ce or La, Al and conditional Ba/Zr, plus base-iron S, treatment temperature, addition method, target residual Mg, inoculation-to-pour time, sizing, fines, pack, TDS, SDS/PSI and lot COA.

  1. 01First confirm nodulariser or low-Mg specialty inoculant
  2. 02Review Mg/Si/Ca/RE/Al and conditional active elements
  3. 03Match sizing and fines to treatment-ladle or in-stream equipment
  4. 04Confirm treatment temperature, base S, target residual Mg and fade time
  5. 05Obtain the formal TDS, applicable SDS/PSI and lot COA

GRADES & SPECIFICATIONS

Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

ORDER SPECIFICATION CONFIRMATION

What must be confirmed before this becomes an order specification

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

  1. 01Confirm the product, grade, application and supply scope
  2. 02Fix guaranteed chemistry, sizing, form and packing in the quotation and order
  3. 03Agree sampling, test methods, acceptance rules and lot COA fields
  4. 04Confirm the required TDS, SDS/PSI, labels and delivery documents

SELECTION AND COMPARISON

Compare specification directions by indicators and operating conditions

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

INDUSTRY APPLICATION

Industry, furnace, material and addition point

Confirm the process position before method and quantity calculations; an application relationship for one furnace or material must not be copied to another.

Iron foundries

First determine nodularising, CGI treatment, preconditioning or post-nodularisation inoculation

Furnace / equipment
Molten-iron nodularising/inoculation systems, after product identity is confirmed
Material / output
No default suitability is assumed for grey, ductile or CGI iron; confirm from Mg level, designed duty and supplier TDS

APPLICATION METHOD

Use restrictions and process review before identity confirmation

Until Mg content, FeSi matrix, accompanying active elements, designed duty and addition stage are confirmed by a formal TDS and lot COA, this product must not be treated by default as an ordinary ferrosilicon inoculant, MgFeSi nodulariser or compacted-graphite treatment alloy. No fixed dose, treatment recovery or performance claim is provided; this page is for identity and process-condition review before a specific application plan is approved.

  1. 01Obtain the supplier's formal product name, production route, TDS, applicable SDS/PSI and lot COA
  2. 02Review Mg, Si, Ca, RE, Al and conditional Ba/Zr plus sizing and fines
  3. 03Have a technical reviewer classify the duty as inoculation, nodularising, CGI treatment or preconditioning
  4. 04Collect base-iron S/O, temperature, ladle, target residual Mg, section thickness and pouring time as required by the confirmed duty
  5. 05Run a controlled trial, resampling and microscopy/thermal-analysis validation only after identity, process point and safety conditions are approved

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

From operating objective to effect verification

Each application explains the role, method, quantity principle and risk boundary; the final proposal is confirmed against operating conditions and lot documents.

01

Iron foundries

First determine nodularising, CGI treatment, preconditioning or post-nodularisation inoculation

Furnace / equipment
Molten-iron nodularising/inoculation systems, after product identity is confirmed
Material / output
No default suitability is assumed for grey, ductile or CGI iron; confirm from Mg level, designed duty and supplier TDS
Method
Obtain the actual TDS and COA and have the process owner define a trial from base-iron S, treatment temperature, target residual Mg, addition equipment and fade window.
Quantity determination
No dose, residual Mg or recovery is published before identity is established; once established, a dedicated plant practice still requires an iron trial.
Expected effects
  • Provides the corresponding molten-iron treatment function only under a correct identity and validated trial
Limits and risks
  • Treating an MgFeSi nodulariser as an inoculant, or the reverse, can create reaction, residual-Mg, microstructure and safety risks

STORAGE & SAFETY

Storage, handling and risk

  • Keep dry and minimise degradation; wet material and fines present splash, dust and reaction hazards in molten iron.
  • Bi, Sb, B, RE and other active-element systems require review against final chemistry, microscopy and defect risk.
