Application-grade control of residual silicon and infiltration behaviour
03

Mismatched silicon quantity, residuals, porosity, temperature or vacuum may cause incomplete infiltration, excessive residual silicon, unreacted carbon, cracking, distortion or performance variation
SELECTION BOUNDARY
Start with the selection boundary
This page is an application-grade RFQ entry for RBSiC / SiSiC infiltration. It is not ordinary aluminium-casting SI-METAL, SI-METAL-POWDER, microsilica, colloidal silica, SiC powder or polysilicon. A silicon-metal standard grade is only a chemistry-identity reference; sizing, residuals, melting/infiltration behaviour and body compatibility require a dedicated TDS, SDS/PSI, lot COA and process trials.
PRODUCT MANUFACTURING
Product manufacturing process
Silicon feed for infiltration is generally first made through the industrial-silicon industry route of electric-furnace carbothermic reduction, tapping and refining, casting and cooling, followed by lot identity confirmation, crushing and screening, fines control, application-grade inspection and packing for SiSiC/RBSiC infiltration. Actual smelting, refining and selection practices are defined by the producer and customer process; this page does not depict a Jinsheng-owned line.
01Verify quartz, reductants and auxiliary feeds, then batch to the actual industrial-silicon route
02Complete electric-furnace carbothermic reduction, tapping and refining, casting and controlled cooling
03After confirming feed lot chemistry and phase identity, crush and screen while controlling fines and foreign contamination
04Review sizing, surface condition, chemistry and lot consistency for infiltration use, retaining a representative sample
05Seal and moisture-protect the application-grade SKU with traceable TDS, SDS and lot COA
SPECIFICATIONS & PACKAGING
Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging
Specification selection must confirm product identity, guaranteed chemistry, sizing, form, packing, test method and order use together.
01Confirm the infiltration use, product system, supplier's formal SKU and feedstock production route
02Use the TDS to agree Si, Fe, Al, Ca and application-relevant trace elements, test methods and lot guarantees
03Fix supply form, size distribution, maximum size, fines proportion and the screening test basis
04Assess surface oxidation, moisture, foreign contamination and equipment-specific melting and infiltration trial requirements
05Approve use only after reviewing sealed pack, logistics, SDS, sampling plan, retained sample and lot COA

APPLICATION METHOD
Application method and effect validation
SiSiC/RBSiC silicon infiltration is a reactive-infiltration process jointly determined by the product system and equipment. Design it around the porous SiC-C preform, free carbon and pore structure, silicon-feed sizing and delivery, the temperature-time-atmosphere or vacuum window, and off-gas safety, then validate residual silicon, reaction extent, porosity and performance on coupons and finished products. This page provides no fixed ratio, dose, recovery or effect value.
01Confirm the SiSiC/RBSiC product system, preform composition, free carbon, pore structure and target microstructure
02Review silicon-feed lot TDS, SDS and COA, then use screening, drying or another approved pretreatment to meet equipment conditions
03Select feeding, contact and loading methods, then run trials to establish temperature, time, atmosphere or vacuum and off-gas safety windows
04Complete melting, wetting, capillary infiltration and the silicon-carbon reaction under control without directly extrapolating trial conditions
05After controlled cooling, inspect residual silicon, formed SiC, unreacted carbon, porosity, dimensions and service-relevant properties, establishing approval and stop criteria
PROBLEM AND SOLUTION
From operating objective to effect verification
Each application explains the role, method, quantity principle and risk boundary; the final proposal is confirmed against operating conditions and lot documents.
01
Refractory producers
Controlled molten-silicon or vacuum-infiltration reaction after body drying/pre-treatment
Furnace / equipment
RBSiC / SiSiC body preparation, controlled molten-silicon or vacuum infiltration and subsequent heat-treatment equipment
Material / output
Porous SiC-C bodies designed for carbon content, open porosity, pore network and target residual silicon
Method
Confirm silicon-feed chemistry, sizing, fines and surface condition together with body carbon, open porosity, pore distribution, pre-treatment, temperature, atmosphere/vacuum and equipment; establish wetting, reaction, infiltration and cooling windows by trial.
Quantity determination
Build a material balance from body mass, open pore volume, reactive carbon, target SiC formation, target residual silicon and equipment loss; no fixed silicon-feed ratio is published across bodies or equipment.
Expected effects
In a matched process, supports silicon infiltration into pores and reaction with available carbon to form a new SiC-bonded structure
Limits and risks
Mismatched silicon quantity, residuals, porosity, temperature or vacuum may cause incomplete infiltration, excessive residual silicon, unreacted carbon, cracking, distortion or performance variation
STORAGE & SAFETY
Storage, handling and risk
Keep dry, clean and lot-segregated and prevent fines accumulation; wet feed must not enter high-temperature molten-silicon or infiltration equipment.
Molten silicon, vacuum, high temperature, brittle lump/granule and dust risks require equipment interlocks, form-specific SDS/PSI and plant procedures; this category page does not replace a process-safety assessment.
This section does not replace the company's final SDS/PSI or the plant safety procedure.
