QUICK DECISION

Four answers before reading the technical detail

This section supports initial screening; final grade, addition and effects require operating conditions, formal documents and plant validation.

01

What it is

This page explains the product's principal composition, application directions and inquiry points; confirm the grade, guaranteed indicators, sizing, packing and process fit before quotation.

02

What it does

  • Coordinated manganese and nitrogen adjustment
  • Solid nitrogen carrier for reviewed steel grades
  • Candidate Mn-N source for carbon- or impurity-constrained practice
03

Where it fits

  • Ladle alloying or trimming after slag, oxygen potential, temperature, dissolution and nitrogen recovery are reviewed
04

Boundary not to miss

  • Excess addition, variable nitrogen recovery or poor timing can cause porosity, coarse nitrides, embrittlement or chemistry excursions
  • Similar names, forms or uses do not make products interchangeable; confirm product identity, specification, application process and order documents separately.

SELECTION BOUNDARY

Start with the selection boundary

Similar names, forms or uses do not make products interchangeable; confirm product identity, specification, application process and order documents separately.

PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

Product manufacturing process

The feed matrix and supplier route must be verified first. A JMnN-type product may be nitrided from verified manganese metal, whereas an FeMnN-type product may be nitrided from supplier-declared low- or medium-carbon ferromanganese. Both route families generally include feed acceptance, crushing/screening or forming, controlled nitriding, cooling, homogenising, sampling and lot testing. No specific furnace, temperature, time or atmosphere is inferred without manufacturer documentation.

  1. 01Identify JMnN-type nitrided manganese metal or FeMnN-type nitrided ferromanganese and verify the feed lot
  2. 02Crush, screen, briquette or otherwise form by the declared process while controlling fines and contamination
  3. 03Perform controlled nitriding within the manufacturer's specified equipment, atmosphere and time-temperature window
  4. 04Cool, homogenise and classify while preventing reoxidation, moisture pickup and lot mixing
  5. 05Sample representatively and test Mn, N, C, Si, P, S, Fe, phase, nitrogen uniformity, sizing and pack

SPECIFICATIONS & PACKAGING

Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging

The specification must be set jointly by the applicable YB/T 4136 family, supplier's formal TDS and purchase agreement. First fix JMnN or FeMnN identity and feed matrix, then agree Mn, N, C, Si, P, S, Fe, phase/nitrogen uniformity, test methods, form, sizing, fines, moisture, packing and lot documents. This page does not combine example values from different product families into a supply grade.

  1. 01Confirm formal product name, YB/T 4136 applicability, JMnN/FeMnN type and supplier grade
  2. 02Enter Mn and N main indicators and C, Si, P, S, Fe limits item by item in the agreement
  3. 03Confirm phase or matrix declaration, nitrogen uniformity, test methods and representative-sampling rules
  4. 04Fix lump/briquette/granule/powder form, sizing, fines, moisture and agglomeration limits for the charging equipment
  5. 05Confirm moisture-protected pack, label, TDS, SDS/PSI, lot COA, origin and change control

INDUSTRY APPLICATION

Industry, furnace, material and addition point

Confirm the process position before method and quantity calculations; an application relationship for one furnace or material must not be copied to another.

01

Steelmaking plants

Furnace / equipment
EAF, LF/ladle and process-reviewed secondary-metallurgy routes
Material / output
Applicable high-nitrogen stainless, heat-resistant or other special steels with defined Mn and N targets and C, Si, P, S and Fe carry-in limits, subject to process-owner approval

APPLICATION METHOD

Application method and effect validation

Nitrided manganese can serve as a solid combined Mn-N carrier for reviewed steel grades, but Mn and N must be mass-balanced separately. Review must include product matrix, lot measurements, melt oxygen potential, slag, temperature, dissolution, nitrogen recovery and C/Si/P/S/Fe carry-in. Suitability for high-nitrogen stainless, heat-resistant or other special steels requires approval by the process owner for the actual route; no fixed dose, recovery or effect value is published.

  1. 01Confirm steel grade, process route, initial and target Mn and N, oxygen and other limiting-element ceilings
  2. 02Check JMnN or FeMnN identity, lot COA, phase, form, sizing and dry condition
  3. 03Mass-balance Mn and N separately and use the limiting element to set the controlled trial quantity and addition point
  4. 04Add under controlled slag, temperature, oxygen-potential and stirring conditions while monitoring dispersion, dissolution and gas behaviour
  5. 05Resample to verify Mn, N, C, Si, P, S, Fe, nitrides, porosity, structure and performance before approval, correction or stop

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

From operating objective to effect verification

Each application explains the role, method, quantity principle and risk boundary; the final proposal is confirmed against operating conditions and lot documents.

01

Steelmaking plants

Ladle alloying or trimming after slag, oxygen potential, temperature, dissolution and nitrogen recovery are reviewed

Furnace / equipment
EAF, LF/ladle and process-reviewed secondary-metallurgy routes
Material / output
Applicable high-nitrogen stainless, heat-resistant or other special steels with defined Mn and N targets and C, Si, P, S and Fe carry-in limits, subject to process-owner approval
Method
Choose a dry, compatible form and addition point from lot-measured Mn, N and matrix chemistry; control dispersion, dissolution and stirring, then resample to verify chemistry, phase and metallurgical quality.
Quantity determination
Mass-balance Mn and N separately, let the first element to reach the steel limit set the addition cap, and check lot measurements, site recovery and C/Si/P/S/Fe carry-in. This page publishes no fixed kg/t rate or recovery.
Expected effects
  • Supports coordinated Mn and N adjustment through a solid carrier in a validated practice
  • Actual effect is governed by steel samples, nitrogen recovery, nitride, structure and performance data
Limits and risks
  • Excess addition, variable nitrogen recovery or poor timing can cause porosity, coarse nitrides, embrittlement or chemistry excursions
  • Similar names, forms or uses do not make products interchangeable; confirm product identity, specification, application process and order documents separately.

STORAGE & SAFETY

Storage, handling and risk

  • Keep dry, sealed and lot-segregated and control dust. Storage, transport and hot-metal charging conditions follow only the SDS/PSI for the actual form and plant procedures.
  • Crushing, screening and charging can create manganese-containing dust or fume; occupational-hygiene controls, local exhaust and PPE must follow the supplier SDS and site risk assessment.

This section does not replace the company's final SDS/PSI or the plant safety procedure.

REFERENCE AND ORDER BOUNDARY

Use industry references to understand, then order documents to confirm

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.
