QUICK DECISION

Four answers before reading the technical detail

This section supports initial screening; final grade, addition and effects require operating conditions, formal documents and plant validation.

01

What it is

A nitrided-ferrochrome family bounded by YB/T 5140—2012.

02

What it does

  • Nitrogen alloying
  • Joint chromium-nitrogen addition
  • Chemistry adjustment for nitrogen-bearing steel
03

Where it fits

  • An approved alloying or chemistry-trimming stage after deoxidation and slag stabilisation
04

Boundary not to miss

  • Nitrogen behaviour depends on temperature, steel chemistry, atmosphere, pressure, stirring and timing; unvalidated transfer can cause insufficient nitrogen, an excursion or chemistry variation

SELECTION BOUNDARY

Start with the selection boundary

Nitrided ferrochrome and high-nitrogen ferrochrome are defined by different standards and must not be interchanged on name alone. Confirm the formal grade, base material, Cr/N, C/Si/P/S, sizing, nitrogen-control window and charging equipment; no chemistry or use result is promised without an SKU/TDS/COA and process trial.

PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

Product manufacturing process

Nitrided ferrochrome is a nitrogen-bearing ferrochrome with its own product identity; it must not be interchanged with high-nitrogen ferrochrome from nitrogen content or a trade alias alone. Public manufacturer information identifies at least a large nitriding-furnace route and a route that remelts ferrochrome in an induction furnace for melt nitriding; this page does not infer the actual process for any company SKU. Manufacturer documents and lot records must confirm the feed, route, equipment, nitriding method and supply form.

  1. 01Confirm the manufacturer, ferrochrome feed, formal grade and lot traceability
  2. 02Verify the supplier-declared nitriding route, equipment and production documents
  3. 03Cross-check the supplier TDS, SDS/PSI and COA against production traceability records
  4. 04Confirm form, sizing, packing and identification from the physical goods and supply documents
  5. 05Sample representatively and test Cr, N, C, accompanying elements, form and pack

SPECIFICATIONS & PACKAGING

Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging

Nitrided ferrochrome must be accepted to its own applicable standard and formal grade; a high-nitrogen-ferrochrome name or grade from another standard is not a substitute. The TDS and purchase agreement must fix Cr, N and C, with agreed Si, P, S and other application-specific restricted elements, supply form, sizing, fines, packing and test methods. Representative lot COA values remain mandatory.

  1. 01Confirm product name, applicable standard revision, supplier grade and nitriding-route declaration
  2. 02Check Cr, N, C, Si, P, S and other indicators, guarantee basis and test methods
  3. 03Confirm lump, granule, powder or other form and its sizing, fines and homogeneity requirements
  4. 04Verify moisture-protected packing, SDS, sampling rules, lot COA and change control

GRADES & SPECIFICATIONS

Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

ORDER SPECIFICATION CONFIRMATION

What must be confirmed before this becomes an order specification

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

  1. 01Confirm the product, grade, application and supply scope
  2. 02Fix guaranteed chemistry, sizing, form and packing in the quotation and order
  3. 03Agree sampling, test methods, acceptance rules and lot COA fields
  4. 04Confirm the required TDS, SDS/PSI, labels and delivery documents

SELECTION AND COMPARISON

Compare specification directions by indicators and operating conditions

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

INDUSTRY APPLICATION

Industry, furnace, material and addition point

Confirm the process position before method and quantity calculations; an application relationship for one furnace or material must not be copied to another.

01

Steelmaking plants

An approved alloying or chemistry-trimming stage after deoxidation and slag stabilisation

Furnace / equipment
EAF, LF/ladle and reviewed vacuum or protective-atmosphere refining routes
Material / output
Nitrogen-bearing steels with defined Cr and N targets, carbon and impurity budgets, and a nitrogen-control window

APPLICATION METHOD

Application method and effect validation

After technical approval, nitrided ferrochrome may add Cr and N together, but a general page cannot determine the applicable grade, addition point, nitrogen recovery or result. The addition must be mass-balanced separately for initial and target melt Cr and N, charge carry-in, measured lot chemistry and site-validated recoveries. The first element to reach the grade limit sets the cap, and a small-lot trial with resampling must confirm nitrogen pickup and final-product performance.

  1. 01Confirm target steel or iron grade, furnace, initial and target Cr and N, and restricted elements
  2. 02Complete separate Cr and N mass balances from the lot COA and site-trial data
  3. 03Set the cap from the limiting element and obtain process-owner approval for sizing, addition point and temperature window
  4. 04Run a controlled small-lot trial and resample to verify Cr, N, accompanying elements, dissolution and performance

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

From operating objective to effect verification

Each application explains the role, method, quantity principle and risk boundary; the final proposal is confirmed against operating conditions and lot documents.

Method
Select a confirmed grade, form and addition point from steel Cr, N, C, temperature, atmosphere and refining route; limit exposure and oxidation, then verify the Cr/N result with a steel sample.
Quantity determination
Balance net Cr and N needs separately, let the first limiting element constrain the addition, and verify against lot-measured chemistry and plant-trial results; no fixed dose is published.
Expected effects
  • Supports coordinated Cr and N adjustment within a validated refining window
Limits and risks
  • Nitrogen behaviour depends on temperature, steel chemistry, atmosphere, pressure, stirring and timing; unvalidated transfer can cause insufficient nitrogen, an excursion or chemistry variation

STORAGE & SAFETY

Storage, handling and risk

  • Keep dry, segregated and identified, controlling crushing and transfer dust; assess dust, fume and hot-metal charging risks under the actual-product SDS/PSI.

This section does not replace the company's final SDS/PSI or the plant safety procedure.
