QUICK DECISION
Four answers before reading the technical detail
This section supports initial screening; final grade, addition and effects require operating conditions, formal documents and plant validation.
01
What it is
A high-nitrogen-ferrochrome family bounded by YB/T 4135—2016 for use as a nitrogen and chromium addition in steelmaking and casting. Target Cr/N, carbon and impurity budgets, melting conditions, and the company's actual grade, chemistry and form all require a formal SKU/TDS and process review.
02
What it does
High-nitrogen alloying feed selection
Joint chromium-nitrogen adjustment
Charge selection for nitrogen-bearing steel and cast alloys
03
Where it fits
Alloying or chemistry trimming after deoxidation, slag and temperature are controlled
04
Boundary not to miss
Nitrogen dissolution and retention depend on temperature, chemistry, atmosphere, pressure, stirring and casting conditions; without plant validation, nitrogen variation, porosity or a chemistry excursion may occur
SELECTION BOUNDARY
Start with the selection boundary
High-nitrogen ferrochrome is a distinct YB/T 4135 product family, not the same as nitrided ferrochrome, conventional ferrochrome or a separate nitriding agent. Select it against target Cr/N, carbon and impurity budgets, atmosphere/pressure, dissolution and casting conditions; no grade, chemistry or effect is promised without an SKU/TDS/COA and plant validation.
PRODUCT MANUFACTURING
Product manufacturing process
High-nitrogen ferrochrome is a distinct product intended to add Cr and N together and managed to its own applicable standard and formal grade. It is not an automatic synonym for nitrided ferrochrome or merely a web variant ranked by nitrogen content. This page does not infer a preparation route. The manufacturer must declare the actual feeds, production route, furnace or equipment, nitrogen-introduction method, critical process window and forming method, supported by process documents and lot testing.
01Confirm manufacturer, actual feeds, formal grade and lot traceability
02Verify the supplier-declared production route, equipment and nitrogen-introduction method
03Control the critical process window and chemical homogeneity to supplier process documents
04Form, cool, crush or classify while preventing moisture pickup, mix-up and contamination
05Sample representatively and test Cr, N, C, accompanying elements, form and pack
SPECIFICATIONS & PACKAGING
Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging
High-nitrogen ferrochrome must be accepted independently to its applicable standard, formal grade, supplier TDS and purchase agreement; a nitrided-ferrochrome standard or COA cannot be substituted. The specification must fix Cr, N and C, with agreed Si, P, S and application-specific restricted elements, product form, sizing, fines, homogeneity, packing and test methods. This page assumes no unverified grade values.
01Confirm the formal product name, applicable standard revision, supplier grade and actual production route
02Check Cr, N, C, Si, P, S and other indicators, test methods and guarantee boundaries
03Fix form, sizing, fines, within-lot homogeneity and representative sampling plan
04Confirm packing, moisture control, SDS, lot COA, origin and change control

INDUSTRY APPLICATION
Industry, furnace, material and addition point
Confirm the process position before method and quantity calculations; an application relationship for one furnace or material must not be copied to another.
01
Steelmaking plants
Alloying or chemistry trimming after deoxidation, slag and temperature are controlled
Furnace / equipment
EAF, LF/ladle and reviewed vacuum or protective-atmosphere refining routes
Material / output
Nitrogen-bearing steels requiring joint Cr/N addition with a defined nitrogen window and carbon and impurity budgets
APPLICATION METHOD
Application method and effect validation
High-nitrogen ferrochrome may add Cr and N in an approved steelmaking or foundry practice, but suitability depends on the target grade, furnace, nitrogen-control window and lot documents. Cr and N must be balanced separately from initial and target chemistry, charge carry-in, measured lot values and site-validated recoveries. No fixed addition or nitrogen recovery is promised across furnace types.
01Confirm target grade, furnace, initial and target Cr and N, and nitrogen-control window
02Complete the two-element mass balance from the lot COA, charge carry-in and site-validated recoveries
03Set the addition cap from the limiting element and approve sizing, addition point, temperature and stirring conditions
04Run a controlled small-lot trial first, then resample to verify Cr, N, accompanying elements, structure and performance
PROBLEM AND SOLUTION
From operating objective to effect verification
Each application explains the role, method, quantity principle and risk boundary; the final proposal is confirmed against operating conditions and lot documents.
01
Steelmaking plants
Alloying or chemistry trimming after deoxidation, slag and temperature are controlled
Furnace / equipment
EAF, LF/ladle and reviewed vacuum or protective-atmosphere refining routes
Material / output
Nitrogen-bearing steels requiring joint Cr/N addition with a defined nitrogen window and carbon and impurity budgets
Method
Confirm grade, form, sequence and addition point from steel Cr, N, C, temperature, atmosphere and refining conditions; control exposure, promote dissolution and mixing, then close the loop with a steel sample.
Quantity determination
Run separate Cr and N mass balances, let the first limiting element constrain the addition, and verify against lot-measured chemistry and this plant's trial results; no fixed dose is published.
Expected effects
Provides joint Cr/N chemistry adjustment within a validated melting window
Limits and risks
Nitrogen dissolution and retention depend on temperature, chemistry, atmosphere, pressure, stirring and casting conditions; without plant validation, nitrogen variation, porosity or a chemistry excursion may occur
STORAGE & SAFETY
Storage, handling and risk
Keep dry, prevent mix-ups and control dust during crushing, screening and charging; manage fumes, splashing and PPE under the actual-product SDS/PSI and hot-metal procedures.
This section does not replace the company's final SDS/PSI or the plant safety procedure.
