Ferrosilicon-barium cored wire

A cored-wire family with a verified ferrosilicon-barium core in a steel sheath. Cast-iron inoculation is the primary review scenario; steel-treatment use requires a separate SKU and process record. Si, Ba, Fe and residual Al, Ca, C, P and S, core sizing, core mass per metre and wire construction must be fixed by the formal TDS and lot COA.

QUICK DECISION

Four answers before reading the technical detail

This section supports initial screening; final grade, addition and effects require operating conditions, formal documents and plant validation.

01

What it is

A cored-wire family with a verified ferrosilicon-barium core in a steel sheath. Cast-iron inoculation is the primary review scenario; steel-treatment use requires a separate SKU and process record. Si, Ba, Fe and residual Al, Ca, C, P and S, core sizing, core mass per metre and wire construction must be fixed by the formal TDS and lot COA.

02

What it does

  • Cast-iron wire inoculation after formula and melt-condition confirmation
  • Control addition point, depth and sequence through wire feeding
  • Close the loop against the actual core, wire, equipment and lot
03

Where it fits

  • In-ladle wire feeding after iron chemistry, S, temperature and treatment target are established
04

Boundary not to miss

  • Confusing silicon-barium with silicon-calcium-barium chemistry, or ignoring base-iron S/O, temperature, section and fade time, can cause under-inoculation, over-inoculation, chill or structure variation; dust and melt reaction require the actual SDS.

SELECTION BOUNDARY

Start with the selection boundary

Ferrosilicon-barium cored wire is identified by Si, Ba and an Fe matrix, without Ca as a naming principal element. If Ca is a guaranteed functional component, use a separate silicon-calcium-barium cored-wire SKU. It is also not bulk ferrosilicon-barium, rare-earth silicon-barium, silicon-aluminium-barium or silicon-aluminium-barium-calcium material. Cast-iron inoculation and steel-treatment grades must not share one specification.

PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

Product manufacturing process

Typical production covers ferrosilicon-barium feed acceptance, crushing or milling, screening and sizing/moisture control, strip forming, metered filling, seaming, diameter and core-mass-per-metre inspection, coiling, identification and moisture-protected packing.

  1. 01Verify core identity, chemistry and safety documents
  2. 02Control core sizing, moisture and uniformity
  3. 03Form the steel strip, meter the core and close the seam
  4. 04Inspect diameter, core mass per metre, joints and leakage
  5. 05Coil, identify, sample and moisture-protect the pack

SPECIFICATIONS & PACKAGING

Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging

A complete specification must separate core chemistry from whole-wire calculated values and jointly define Si, Ba, Fe and residuals, core sizing/moisture, diameter/tolerance, strip and seam, core mass per metre and uniformity, joints, leakage, coil mass, pack, TDS, SDS/PSI and lot COA.

  1. 01Fix the formal core grade, carrier and test method
  2. 02Confirm sizing, moisture and core mass per metre
  3. 03Confirm diameter, strip, seam and joints
  4. 04Confirm coil, pack, label and lot documents

GRADES & SPECIFICATIONS

ORDER SPECIFICATION CONFIRMATION

What must be confirmed before this becomes an order specification

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

  1. 01Confirm the product, grade, application and supply scope
  2. 02Fix guaranteed chemistry, sizing, form and packing in the quotation and order
  3. 03Agree sampling, test methods, acceptance rules and lot COA fields
  4. 04Confirm the required TDS, SDS/PSI, labels and delivery documents

INDUSTRY APPLICATION

Industry, furnace, material and addition point

Confirm the process position before method and quantity calculations; an application relationship for one furnace or material must not be copied to another.

01

Iron foundries

In-ladle wire feeding after iron chemistry, S, temperature and treatment target are established

Furnace / equipment
Ductile- or compacted-iron treatment ladles, transfer ladles and compatible wire feeders
Material / output
Grey, ductile or dedicated CGI melts with defined base chemistry, S/O, temperature, section, treatment point and inoculation-fade window

APPLICATION METHOD

Application method and effect validation

For cast-iron wire inoculation, determine length, speed and point from base chemistry, S/O, temperature, section, target structure, measured core values, core mass per metre and site response. Trial-feed and verify by thermal analysis, chill test, metallography and mechanical results; no universal fixed dose or performance gain is published.

  1. 01Confirm melt, target and prohibited conditions
  2. 02Make the mass balance from measured chemistry and core mass per metre
  3. 03Check the feeder and set the trial-feeding window
  4. 04Feed under the process card and control the reaction
  5. 05Resample, verify and confirm stop criteria

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

From operating objective to effect verification

Each application explains the role, method, quantity principle and risk boundary; the final proposal is confirmed against operating conditions and lot documents.

01

Iron foundries

In-ladle wire feeding after iron chemistry, S, temperature and treatment target are established

Furnace / equipment
Ductile- or compacted-iron treatment ladles, transfer ladles and compatible wire feeders
Material / output
Grey, ductile or dedicated CGI melts with defined base chemistry, S/O, temperature, section, treatment point and inoculation-fade window
Method
First confirm the formal core grade, chemistry, sizing/moisture, diameter, steel strip, core mass per metre and joints; then establish speed, depth and stop criteria from melt analysis, temperature, feeder and a trial-feeding plan.
Quantity determination
Calculate from initial melt value, target net increase, measured core chemistry, core mass per metre and plant recovery, then close by resampling; no fixed kg/t or m/s is published without furnace, grade and equipment context.
Expected effects
  • Supports graphite nucleation and chill reduction within a validated window
  • Structure uniformity and inoculation fade require confirmation by thermal analysis, chill test, metallography or performance retesting
Limits and risks
  • Confusing silicon-barium with silicon-calcium-barium chemistry, or ignoring base-iron S/O, temperature, section and fade time, can cause under-inoculation, over-inoculation, chill or structure variation; dust and melt reaction require the actual SDS.

STORAGE & SAFETY

Storage, handling and risk

  • Keep dry, moisture-protected and rust-protected, preventing powder leakage, wire breakage and loose coils; inspect appearance, joints, identity and pack integrity before handling and feeding.
  • The core may present dust, combustion, reactivity, fume or melt-splash risks; operate only under the actual SKU SDS/PSI, equipment procedure and destination rules.

This section does not replace the company's final SDS/PSI or the plant safety procedure.
