SELECTION BOUNDARY

Start with the selection boundary

Silicon barium is not one grade that transfers across applications. First separate cast-iron inoculation from steel deoxidation, then confirm Ba, Si, Ca, Al, residuals, sizing, addition point, material and formal TDS; it also does not replace a nodulariser.

PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

Product manufacturing process

Silicon-barium alloy is generally produced by a supplier-controlled route, then cast, cooled, crushed, screened and tested. Steel deoxidizer and barium-bearing foundry inoculant must be managed separately by formula, sizing and lot.

Application method and effect validation

First distinguish steel treatment from cast-iron inoculation. Select inoculant grade against base-iron S/O, temperature, section thickness, pouring time and fade window, close to pouring; steel grade requires a separate deoxidation/inclusion review.

Method
Select the Ba system and sizing from base-iron S/O, temperature, section thickness, pouring time and fade window, adding as close to pouring as practicable.

Establish the treatment window from supplier TDS, thermal analysis and casting trials; do not transfer a grey- or ductile-iron dose unconditionally to another material.
