QUICK DECISION

Four answers before reading the technical detail

This section supports initial screening; final grade, addition and effects require operating conditions, formal documents and plant validation.

01

What it is

Vanadium microalloying for HSLA, tool steels and wear-resistant cast steel; final performance depends on chemistry, rolling, cooling and heat treatment.

02

What it does

  • Vanadium microalloying
  • Precipitation strengthening
  • Microstructure refinement
03

Where it fits

  • Microalloying after adequate deoxidation and slag control
  • Furnace alloying or late ladle trimming
04

Boundary not to miss

  • Excess or poor precipitation control may harm toughness/weldability; the alloy alone cannot guarantee final strength
  • Without coordinated heat treatment the target effect may not be achieved

SELECTION BOUNDARY

Start with the selection boundary

FeV is a microalloying material that must be designed with C, N, Ti, Nb, Al and rolling/heat treatment; no fixed kg/t or single product guarantees mechanical properties.

PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

Product manufacturing process

Ferrovanadium is generally produced by making vanadium oxide from vanadium-bearing feed, then metallothermically reducing it with an iron source and aluminium or other reductants, followed by separation, cooling, crushing and screening.

  1. 01Process vanadium-bearing feed to vanadium oxide
  2. 02Batch oxide, iron source, reductants and flux
  3. 03Metallothermic reduction
  4. 04Separate slag/metal and cool
  5. 05Crush, screen, test V/Al and pack

SPECIFICATIONS & PACKAGING

Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging

Specification selection must confirm product identity, guaranteed chemistry, sizing, form, packing, test method and order use together.

  1. 01Confirm FeV50/80 family
  2. 02Check V and Al/C/Si/P/S
  3. 03Match sizing for micro-addition metering
  4. 04Confirm protected pack and COA

GRADES & SPECIFICATIONS

Grades, specifications, indicators and packaging

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

ORDER SPECIFICATION CONFIRMATION

What must be confirmed before this becomes an order specification

Supply specifications, packaging, lead time and quality documents are subject to the formal quotation and order confirmation.

  1. 01Confirm the product, grade, application and supply scope
  2. 02Fix guaranteed chemistry, sizing, form and packing in the quotation and order
  3. 03Agree sampling, test methods, acceptance rules and lot COA fields
  4. 04Confirm the required TDS, SDS/PSI, labels and delivery documents

SELECTION AND COMPARISON

Compare specification directions by indicators and operating conditions

INDUSTRY APPLICATION

Industry, furnace, material and addition point

Confirm the process position before method and quantity calculations; an application relationship for one furnace or material must not be copied to another.

01

Steelmaking plants

Microalloying after adequate deoxidation and slag control

Furnace / equipment
LF/ladle, with selected EAF or induction routes
Material / output
HSLA, rebar/structural, spring and tool steels
02

Steel foundries

Furnace alloying or late ladle trimming

Furnace / equipment
EAF, induction furnace and ladle
Material / output
Tool, wear-resistant and designed microalloyed cast steels

APPLICATION METHOD

Application method and effect validation

Usually add late after adequate deoxidation and slag control, with reliable mixing, coordinated with C, N, Ti, Nb, Al and downstream rolling/heat treatment.

  1. 01Confirm target and residual V
  2. 02Choose timing from precipitation design
  3. 03Meter the micro-addition and mix
  4. 04Verify V and downstream performance

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

From operating objective to effect verification

Each application explains the role, method, quantity principle and risk boundary; the final proposal is confirmed against operating conditions and lot documents.

01

Steelmaking plants

Microalloying after adequate deoxidation and slag control

Furnace / equipment
LF/ladle, with selected EAF or induction routes
Material / output
HSLA, rebar/structural, spring and tool steels
Method
Add late where dissolution/mixing and low oxidation loss are ensured, coordinated with N, C, Ti, Nb, Al and downstream thermomechanical practice.
Quantity determination
Make a micro-addition balance from net V increase, measured V and site recovery, deducting residual V and verifying with a steel sample.
Expected effects
  • Supports strength and wear performance through controlled carbonitride precipitation and microstructure
Limits and risks
  • Excess or poor precipitation control may harm toughness/weldability; the alloy alone cannot guarantee final strength
02

Steel foundries

Furnace alloying or late ladle trimming

Furnace / equipment
EAF, induction furnace and ladle
Material / output
Tool, wear-resistant and designed microalloyed cast steels
Method
Add to the cast-steel grade and heat-treatment plan, ensure dissolution and verify by chemistry/performance tests.
Quantity determination
Calculate from target V, residual V and site recovery.
Expected effects
  • Supports wear, refinement and thermal-stability objectives
Limits and risks
  • Without coordinated heat treatment the target effect may not be achieved
