Starter flux serves the short casting-start stage only; it is not regular mould flux, tundish cover or ladle cover.

PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

Product manufacturing process

Formulation and manufacturing route for casting powders depend on the specific product. A general route may include mineral, fluxing and carbonaceous feed review, metered blending and—according to the supplier route—raw-material, premelted/fused-and-crushed, spray-granulated or another verified process, followed by homogenization, screening, physical-property testing and moisture-protected packing. Different use locations must retain separate product identities.

A starter-flux specification must identify its dedicated casting-start role, principal oxides, exothermic or fluxing system, ignition/reaction and melting behaviour, sizing, spreadability, moisture, pack, storage and lot testing. Exothermic formulations have risks distinct from regular mould flux; the page publishes no unapproved heat output, reaction time or per-start amount.

APPLICATION METHOD

Use scenarios, method, effect and risk validation

Place strictly at the specified location and timing under the caster start card, then transition to the matched regular mould flux after meniscus and initial liquid slag stabilize. A validated product can help establish initial coverage/liquid slag faster; wrong grade, exothermic behaviour or timing can cause abnormal reaction, agglomeration, entrainment and unstable lubrication. Verify start stability, level, slag film and strand quality; do not use continuously as regular mould flux or as tundish cover.
